For me it was a first impression from a photo, it just looked like a nice bike. When I got to sit on it, it felt like a well balanced peice of machinery with a good low centre of gravity. The first savage I rode was a 400 and I thought to myself "well if thats a 400 i'll have a 650". I was impressed by the sound and the bike is a simple and uncomplicated mechanically. Not water cooled - another advantage. The reason for buying this particular savage as opposed to the other savages I looked at was that it had low miles on it, it looked well looked after and hadn't been abused,it was maroon and if I hadnt bought it I would have had to buy another bike in order to make the 400 mile trip back home as I had only purchased a one way air ticket to go and inspect the bike. I'm pleased I did even though its been rainning maroon savages here ever since!!!!
